Bradley Tremewan & Smith says for obscurana: "hindwing of male with an elongate patch of dense, black scales on basal half of costa on upper side" and then under comments "and in the male the black patch of scales along the costa of the hindwing, are characteristic". But this feature is present in albuginana and also suspectana.
